Balcony power plant in a rented apartment: running the cable cleanly – and tracelessly – through the roof
Do you live in a rented apartment and want to connect your balcony power plant to the roof or over the roof surface? The biggest concern here: no permanent damage to the landlord's roof. There is a reversible solution for exactly this.
The problem for tenants: no holes, no trouble
Classic "solutions" such as a drilled-out tile or areas sealed with silicone are permanent – and a problem when moving out. At the same time, the solar cable must not run unprotected over the sharp edge of the tile, otherwise the insulation will rub through over the years.
The reversible solution: abrasion protection for insertion
Our PV roof feed-through is simply inserted into the tile – without drilling, without gluing. The cable lies protected in UV-resistant TPU instead of on the sharp edge (mechanical abrasion protection, not a sealing element – the rain safety, as always, comes from the professional tile roofing). When you move out, you simply remove the feed-through and put the tile back – tracelessly.
How to proceed as a tenant
- Briefly coordinate with the landlord. Since the solution is reversible and does not require drilling/permanent intervention, approval is usually uncomplicated – it's best to briefly put it in writing.
- Choose the appropriate size: 105 mm is standard for tiled roofs, 125 mm for Frankfurter/Finkenberger Pfanne tiles.
- Insert the cable together with the MC4 connector – no cutting necessary.
- Hook in the feed-through, put the tile back. Done – and removable without residue when moving out.
FAQ
Do I have to drill into the roof? No. The feed-through is inserted, not screwed or glued – ideal for rented apartments.
Can I remove it again when I move out? Yes, tracelessly. Remove the feed-through, put the tile back.
Is it waterproof? The feed-through is abrasion protection for the cable, not a sealing element. The tile roofing ensures rain safety.
Do I need the landlord's consent? You should always discuss structural interventions on the roof – because our solution is reversible, this is usually uncomplicated in practice.
