Where the watertightness truly comes from

A tiled roof is an overlapping, ventilated system. It is not "sealed" at a single point; rather, rain resistance is achieved through the tiling and – where necessary – the underlayment. If you try to "seal" a single penetration with a lot of silicone, problems are more likely to arise in the long term: silicone becomes brittle under UV, cracks, and allows water to get underneath.
