Solar Cables from the Balcony Power Plant Safely into the House – Which Path is Right?
You have installed your balcony power plant or PV modules – now the solar cables need to go into the house to the inverter. There are three common ways to do this. We compare them so you can choose the one that suits your building.
Path 1: Through the Window or Balcony Door
The quickest entry: a flat window pass-through cable between the frame and the sash. Advantage: no structural changes, ideal for rented properties. Disadvantage: the window no longer closes properly, only suitable for thin cables – more of a temporary solution.
Path 2: Drilling Through the Wall
Permanent and clean: core drilling through the outer wall with a wall penetration. Advantage: solid, inconspicuous solution. Disadvantage: drilling into the facade (ask the landlord for rented properties), more effort and the drilling must be properly sealed.
Path 3: Over the Tiled Roof
If the modules are on the pitched roof, the most sensible way is to route the cables directly through the tile. This is where the most common weak point lies: the cable rubs through on the sharp edge of the tile. A PV roof penetration as abrasion protection prevents exactly this – the cable is neatly guided without you having to remove the pre-assembled MC4 connectors.
Why abrasion protection on a tiled roof is crucial
Wind moves the cable, the hard clay edge acts like a file – over the years, the insulation can be damaged. A 3D-printed penetration made of TPU (UV and weather resistant, Made in Germany) guides the cable cleanly through the tile. Tool-free, without drilling, without special tiles.
Conclusion: Which path for whom?
For rented properties or temporarily: Window. Fixed wall solution: Core drilling. Modules on the tiled roof: Roof penetration with abrasion protection – the cleanest solution for pitched roofs.
